I want to be paid by check
I want to lease some land. Can I tell the tenant I require a check and will not accept cash? The tenant keeps paying in cash and I do not like carrying around that much money. | |
As a general rule, you can satisfy your financial obligations by using cash or a check. Most people consider cash and checks as the same thing. They are, howeve r, very different. Only cash is legal tender that may be freely exchanged. If a person wants to pay in cash, he or she has the right to do so. In your situatio n, however, the lease determines the method of payment. If you want to be paid w ith a check, you should make this clear to the tenant before the lease is signed and make it a term of the lease. If you do not have a formal lease, you can giv e thirty-days notice and make it a requirement for the future. |
